DAVID'S HALLOWEEN TREAT

About SINCERITY....

Growing up as most of us did, with IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN, I often wondered what the conversation would be like Linus ever succeeded in finding a pumpkin patch filled with sincerity as far as the eye could see...

GUNSMOKE

David transcribed four early episodes of the Gunsmoke radio show and merged them into a single narrative. Taking what was already there, he then created the connective tissue, exploring the lives of Matt, Chester, Kitty, and Doc as they tried to tame the wild violence of the West.

Thus, while you await David's next original novel, he invites you to spend a little time with Matt Dillon, the first man they look for and the last they want to meet.

This novel cannot be sold.  David does not own the rights to either the characters or these stories, which were originally written by Norman MacDonald and John Meston, but you can download it for free by signing up for David's email list, below.

More About GUNSMOKE....

A decade back, I wanted to make a present for my father. He’s a fan of the big Western, having grown up on The Lone Ranger, Have Gun, Will Travel, and Gunsmoke on radio. He shared those with me as a kid, and while it’s not my preferred genre, still I have a deep appreciation for a well-crafted Western.

Then Robert B. Parker broke away from his Spenser novels to pen a couple Westerns in his own style. I thought they were tremendously effective. So did Ed Harris, who created the underappreciated Appaloosa based on the novel.

One night I was listening to Gunsmoke just before bed when I realized the narration by William Conrad’s Marshall Dillon was a near-perfect fit for that terse Parkerian style. An idea formed. For a lark, I transcribed four early episodes of Gunsmoke and merged them into a single narrative. Taking what was already there, I then created the connective tissue, exploring the lives of Matt, Chester, Kitty, and Doc as they tried to tame the wild violence of the West.

My dad loved the result. So did I.

This novel cannot be sold. I don’t own the rights to either the characters or these stories, which were originally written by Norman MacDonald and John Meston. On its most basic level this is nothing more than Gunsmoke fan fiction. Really high-quality fan fiction, if I do say so myself. I truly enjoyed the writing process, and reading it over, it holds up.

Thus, while you await my next original novel, I invite you to spend a little time with Matt Dillon, the first man they look for and the last they want to meet.

Happy trails.
